Performing Arts

It is recommended that all Grade 9 students sign up for one of our inclusive courses to develop necessary and essential literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Why should you take one of our courses in grade 9?

All drama, dance and theatre courses are an excellent introduction to the secondary school arts curriculum and the extensive opportunities offered by the Performing ARTS Department. No experience is required for these introductory courses. The courses offer the following:

• an opportunity to earn an arts credit in an inclusive and energetic environment

• an opportunity to build transferable skills by using the arts as a technique to improve team work, communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills

• a general introduction and foundation in performance styles, including theatre and dance history, production values, and diverse performance styles

• an opportunity to meet students from different areas of the AMHS community

• an active, challenging, kinaesthetic, experiential, hands-on learning experience

After grade 9, students may sign up for senior courses that focus on some of the following topics: technical elements for live events, choreography and composition, acting for stage and film, playwriting, creative movement, comedy, improvisation techniques, and much, much more!
