Diploma Overview

Students will have a full timetable in Grades 9 and 10 (8 courses per year) 

  • English, Math, French, History and Science are offered at preparatory level
  • Tech, Phy Ed, Geography, the Arts, Civics and Career are not IB streamed. 

Students will have full IB course load in Grade 11 and 12 (8 IB course per year)

Grade 11 Anticipation Year (Diploma Programme Year 1)

Semester One:

  • English – HL (Part 1/3) Grade 11
  • Individual and Society – HL (Part 1/3) Grade 11 History
  • Art or Science – SL - (Part 1/2) Grade 11 Arts, or Chemistry, or Physics
  • Math: Analysis & Approaches SL (Part 1/2) Grade 12 Advanced Function

Semester Two 

  • 0.5 French – SL / 0.5 ToK Grade 11
  • Science – HL (Part 1/3) Grade 11 Chemistry
  • Art or Science - SL (Part 2/2) Grade 12 Arts, or Chemistry, or Physics
  • Math: Analysis & Approaches SL (Part 2/2) Grade 12 Calculus & Vectors

Final IB Exams in the Arts or SL Science Subjects and in Mathematics are usually taken in May of the year.

Students will earn 3 Ontario Gr. 12 credits by the end of Gr. 11


 

Grade 12 Diploma Year

Semester One 

  • English – HL (Part 2/3) Grade 12
  • Individual and Society – HL (Part 2/3) Grade 12 History
  • Science – HL(Part 2/3) Grade 12 Chemistry
  • 0.5 French – SL / 0.5 ToK Grade 11

Semester Two

  • English – HL (Part 3/3) Grade 12
  • Individual and Society – HL (Part 3/3) Grade 12 History
  • Science – HL (Part 3/3) Grade 12 Chemistry
  • French – SL (Part 2/2) Grade 12

Remaining final IB exams are taken in May of the graduating year.

Students will earn another 7 Ontario Gr. 12 credits by the end of Gr. 12.

IB Terminology

IB Diploma

Students take: 

  • 3 subjects at the Higher Level (HL)
  • 3 subjects at the Standard Level (SL)
  • Complete the IB Core:
    • Extended Essay (EE)
    • Theory of Knowledge (ToK)
    • Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS)

Levels

  • HL - Higher Level Course = 3 semesters of coursework
  • SL - Standard Level Course = 2 semesters of coursework

Extended Essay

An investigation of a topic of special interest outside of the regular curriculum

Core Creativity, Activity, Service

  • Students engage in a range of enjoyable & significant experiences that foster growth in areas of Creativity, Activity and Service.
  • While targeting 7 specific learning outcomes, student learn to become more caring, risk-taking, balanced, and internationally-minded global citizens.

Theory of Knowledge

Challenges students to question the basis of knowledge, to develop the ability to analyze evidence and to appreciate a variety of cultural perspectives.
