A student’s school experience is more than what happens in the classroom (curriculum and classroom instruction). It is an opportunity for students to develop emotionally, socially and improve their teamwork and leadership skills. At Alexander Mackenzie High School we have many activities and services to help support success in every student. All students are encouraged to participate in our school’s many clubs and associations such as student activity council, character education and equity, peer mediation, student athletics, visual and performing arts productions, and robotics to name a few.
The Student Success Team provides student advocacy and mentoring to support students who are at-risk as defined by the Ministry. The Student Success Teacher meets regularly with students based on need and communicates as required with the parents/guardians. The ultimate goal is to interact with classroom teachers to form meaningful partnerships in supporting students.
Some of the supports provided by the Student Success Teacher include:
- Transition support from elementary to high school
- Monitoring student progress
- Small group and/or individualized academic support
- Mental Health and Wellbeing support
