IB Newsletter - Alexander Mackenzie High School October 2025
Dear Parents/Guardians:
I hope you are doing well. In this newsletter, you will find important information and updates about our IB program at AMHS.
IB info night
Our IB Information Night will be held on the evening of Thursday, October 16, 2025. This event is designed for Grade 8 students and their families to learn more about the IB program and the application process for the upcoming school year.
The evening program will begin at 7:00 p.m. As in previous years, we are also offering families the opportunity to explore our school and connect with IB subject teachers who will be available to answer specific questions about their courses. This optional, self-paced tour will take place from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m.
DP1 - CAS and Extended Essay Introduction workshop
On Thursday, October 23rd, DP1 students will participate in a workshop during lunch (Period 3) in the library. Pizza will be provided.
During this session, students will be introduced to the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and Extended Essay (EE) components of the IB program. These are mandatory requirements for earning the IB Diploma, in addition to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
We encourage parents/guardians to engage in regular conversations with their child about their progress in CAS and EE once they have begun these important components.
