Washroom Concerns at AMHS

There are ongoing concerns related to the misuse of student washrooms at Alexander Mackenzie High School. Incidents have included graffiti, vaping, vandalism, and damage to facilities. As a result, some washrooms have had to be temporarily closed, impacting access for all students.

To address this, we are closely monitoring students leaving class and allowing only one student at a time to use the washroom (unless there is an urgent need). These measures are in place to ensure student safety and to protect school facilities for everyone.

We ask that you speak with your child about making respectful and responsible choices. The actions of a few students are now affecting the entire student body, and it is important that all students understand the impact of their behaviour.

Students and families can report concerns anonymously using the

YRDSB Report It Tool.

Thank you for your support in reinforcing these expectations.

Sincerely,
Aline Daniel
Principal

 E-Scooters/E-bikes Family Information

 Dear Families,

YRDSB continues to encourage families to use safe transportation to and from school. We encourage students to use active school travel whenever possible. Active travel refers to any form of human-powered transportation, including walking, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding, and scootering.

 School Property

Students using any transportation device, whether electronic or not-electronic, must dismount before arriving on school property. This includes all sidewalks, pathways, and walkways on school grounds. Please note that the school is not responsible for lost or damaged equipment.

Provincial Regulations

These modes of travel offer many physical, mental, and community benefits. Please visit the Ontario website for a full list of regulations. Every cyclist under 18 must wear a properly fitting bike helmet. Some students may also choose to use electronically assisted devices, such as e‑scooters or e‑bikes. In Ontario, you must be 16 or older to ride an e-scooter or e-bike. When riding e‑scooters or e‑bikes, it is important that students follow all

applicable municipal regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others.

Municipal Regulations

Before riding any device, it is important for students and families to be aware of the regulations set by their local municipality. These may include minimum age requirements for operating electric devices, helmet laws, and

other safety guidelines.

Respectful Riding

Pedestrians always have the right of way. Students are expected to ride with caution by slowing down, using a bell when approaching others, and passing on the left. Wearing reflective clothing is encouraged to increase

visibility and promote safer travel.

ACTION REQUIRED FOR ALL JUNE GRADUATES: COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT HOURS

Our records show that many students have not yet completed the required 40 hours of community involvement. Some students still need to submit a few remaining hours, while others have not submitted any hours to date. Please remember that completing 40 hours of community involvement is a mandatory requirement to graduate and receive the OSSD. Guidance does not provide volunteer placements for students.

All volunteer hours must be submitted by June 5th so they can be processed for graduation purposes. Students who do not complete and submit their hours will not receive their diplomas until the hours a fully completed.  We understand that some students may be completing volunteer hours at elementary school year-end events in June. If this applies to your child, please ensure they inform their counselor so we are aware of their plans.

Please note that submissions containing a large number of hours from a single organization may require additional

verification to ensure they meet volunteer criteria before they can be accepted.

If your child has completed hours that have not yet been submitted, please upload them promptly.

Thank you for your attention to this important graduation requirement.

Final deadline for graduation package orders: April 24, 2026

Attention: Grade 12 students graduating in June 2026 who have not yet

ordered their graduation package must do so immediately. Please order your graduation package on School Cash Online before April 24, 2026.
